Make Paste
Ingredients
- 1 cup plain flour (all purpose flour)
- 2 cups tap water
- OPTIONAL: d a tablespoon of salt to help preserve the paper mache glue
Method
- Note: this can also be me on the stove, by lightly heating the mixture and stirring continuously
- Mix one part flour, with two parts water. Pour the water in gradually and keep stirring. Try and remove as many lumps as possible
- Microwave at full blast for 30-40 seconds (remember microwaves do vary, so d it for less if need be). Remove, stir
- Repeat the step above 2-4 until you have a consistency you like (some like it runnier, some like it thicker)
- Let cool and use
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week
Mix the Paste with Shredded Paper
- shredded paper or newspaper cut into pieces
- large bowl
- hot water
- flour – 1 part flour to 4 parts pulp
- salt
- a hand blender or mixer
Method
- Make Shredded Paper or cut up newspapers
- Mix the water and shredded paper until fully covered. Saturate the shredded paper overnight or for a few hours.
- Blend with a hand blender or similar. Pulp up the paper with the blender until it is broken down completely.
- Squeeze out excess water. It should still be a little wet but not dripping.
- Add some flour and salt to your paper pulp mixture to reach your preferred consistency
- Storing your paper clay – use an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.
